The PTSD Consultation Program offers consultation, continuing education, and other resources to healthcare providers (including non-VA providers) who treat Veterans with PTSD in the community. Respite care can be a resource to give informal caregivers time to take care of their own needs with the comfort of knowing their Veteran is safe at home with a caring aide. The number of hours for which a Veteran qualifies is based on a standardized assessment tool.
Ensure that these programs meet the continuing education requirements necessary for continued licensure and certification. Ensure that a sufficient number of qualified RNs, LPNs and CNAs are available to ensure quality care is delivered. Participate actively in various committee meetings of the department and/or facility as requested by the DON or designee. Participate in the updating of the resident’s written discharge plan as required.
Eligibility for Caregiver Support Program
Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the facility’s quality improvement program. The primary purpose of the Shift Supervisor position is to supervise the nursing activities and facility operations to assure resident safety for the whole facility for one shift. Veterans can apply for VA Healthcare online, by telephone, by mail, or in-person. Has a need for regular or extensive instruction or supervision without which the ability of the Veteran to function in daily life would be seriously impaired on a continuous basis.
Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the DON or designee concerning operation of the nursing department. Survivors Pension – For a surviving spouse and unmarried dependent children of wartime Veterans who meet certain income and net worth limits set by Congress. Dependency and Indemnity Compensation – For a survivor of a service member who died in the line of duty, or the survivor of a Veteran who died from a service-related injury or illness.

This indicates a need for mental health treatment and providers with expertise to address these distressing symptoms in a Veteran’s final weeks of life. Connecting front line staff and Veterans to their VA mental health provider, through telehealth connection, can help bridge this potential gap in care. Eligibility is based on criteria both the Veteran and the survivor must meet, such as the Veterans military discharge status, period of service and the survivor’s relationship to the Veteran. Review medication orders for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of physician orders, and adherence to stop order policies. Keep the DON or designee informed of the status of residents and other related matters through written/oral reports. Inform the DON or designee when physician visits are not made in a timely manner.

Ensure that all RNs and LPNs on your shift comply with written procedures for the administration, storage, and control of medications and supplies. Encourage attending physicians to sign progress notes, physician’s orders, etc. on a timely basis and according to regulations. Assist the Nurse Educator in developing and presenting in-service programs.
